Eric Dwight’s NO CLEAN FINISH to screen at PLFF!

We’re happy to announce that Eric Dwight’s NO CLEAN FINISH will screen at this year’s Prairie Lights Film Festival! Here’s a bit about the film:

Tommy is an independent wrestler who has just been called up to the big time. On his last night with the company, he is set to drop the title. Around him are those who have their own take on Tommy’s recent push. During the lead up to the main event, Tommy is battling making a decision that could change so many peoples’ lives.

NO CLEAN FINISH takes place in Plattsmouth, NE.  The wrestling promotion in the film travels around the region including to North Platte, NE.  The film was shot on location at Concordia Jr/Sr High School in Omaha, NE as well as in Plattsmouth, NE.  All of the cast and crew are either based in the Omaha, NE area or from Lincoln, NE.

Matt Townley’s THE RETIREMENT OF MR. JONES to screen at PLFF!

We’re stoked to announce that Matt Townley’s THE RETIREMENT OF MR. JONES will be screening at this year’s PLFF! Here’s the synopsis:

The Retirement of Mr. Jones follows Mark Jones, Director of Bands in Fort Calhoun, NE, as he struggles with his decision to retire after a 36-year-tenure. Like a Midwestern Mr. Holland’s Opus, the film highlights the triumphs, defeats and daily grind of music educators who teach Beethoven and marching band in an on-demand world.

Matt Townley was born and raised just north of Omaha near Fort Calhoun, NE. Mark Jones, the subject for “The Retirement of Mr. Jones” was his music instructor during his school years spanning from 1985-1992. He is still the music instructor of the Fort Calhoun Community school district to this day. All of the filming for the documentary was shot on-location in the state of Nebraska. The primary interview was shot on the Fort Calhoun School campus with additional footage acquired in Omaha and Lincoln, Nebraska. The climax of the film was shot during an awards banquet for the Nebraska State Bandmaster’s Association (NSBA) in Lincoln. The awards banquet celebrates only Nebraska Music Educators.

Christina Marie Leonard’s LOCH NESS: The Web Series, to screen at PLFF!

We’re excited to announce that Nebraska native Christina Marie Leonard’s full webseries, LOCH NESS, will screen at this year’s PLFF! Here’s the synopsis:

Donna, Joey, Kyle and Steve are four high school metal heads that dream of making it big with their folk metal band, Loch Ness. Now, all they need to do is figure out how to keep a lead singer. However, in their hometown of Omaha, Nebraska there’s not a lot of candidates lining up for the position. With overbearing parents, lack of funds and a bass player who manages to get it wrong more then right, will they ever keep it together long enough to truly rock out?

Loch Ness: The Web Series was created by Christina Marie Leonard, originally from Omaha Nebraska, and based on her experiences in a band from the Omaha area. The series was produced in LA by Leonard and three others, including Mijoe Sahiouni (who also directed the bulk of the episodes) and Max Holm, University of Nebraska Lincoln graduates, and Melanie Recker of UNO. The cast includes a few Omaha favorites including Chris Muckey as the Loch Ness band’s drummer “Joey” and Jim Hanna as the dad of Loch Ness‘s keyboardist Donna.

World Premiere of Tom Knoblauch’s NAOMI JONES to screen at PLFF!

We are honored to announce that Fatherson Productions’ newest film, NAOMI JONES, will be World Premiering at Prairie Lights this year! Here’s the synopsis:

Microbudget Nebraskan filmmaker Naomi Jones is having a bad day on the set of her first movie with a high-stakes budget.

Directed by Tom Knoblauch, NAOMI JONES is a comedy about microbudget filmmaking in the Midwest, following a Nebraska crew as they struggle to get their movie made. It was filmed on location in Omaha and Waterloo with an almost entirely Nebraskan cast and crew. Not only will you be able to see the film at Prairie Lights first, but cast and crew will be on hand for a Q&A!  This year is already shaping up to be an incredible lineup!

World Premiere of Patrick Lambrecht’s GHOST HUNTERS to screen at PLFF!

Prairie Lights is proud to announce the first film in our annual Flat Water Terrors anthology: Patrick Lambrecht’s GHOST HUNTERS!

While waiting for the rest of her paranormal investigative team to arrive, Jayda decides to start exploring an abandoned building on her own. What she ends up capturing is more than what she expects.

GHOST HUNTERS is written by local area writer Lisa Kovanda, directed by Patrick Lambrecht, stars Andrea Erickson, and is the latest film from local production company Midnight Fright Films. The film will join a group of 7-8 as yet unannounced films as part of FLAT WATER TERRORS VOLUME 3, a collection of World Premiere short horror films. Wanna get scared? A young man and woman’s personal struggles to confess their feelings, secrets, and choices in regards to their complicated friendship, after one surprises another with plane tickets to their childhood dream to go to Los Angeles to escape their Midwest fates.

The film’s producer and lead actress, Fawn Bowen, was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska and we’re excited to screen this film showing the diverse range of homegrown Nebraska talent currently working in Los Angeles! In addition, both Fawn and the director, Z, will be on hand for the screening.

Prairie Lights is stoked to announce that the latest film from Jim Fields, LIFE AFTER EX, will be screening at the film festival this year! Here’s a bit about the film:

Life After Ex is a new romantic comedy/drama about the search for love after a gay divorce. Set in the months before the Supreme Court ruled to legalize same sex marriage nationwide, Dylan Holm (Nicklaus Knipe) is shocked to learn he’s unable to file for divorce in his home state of Nebraska and must move to Iowa (where same sex marriage is legal) to establish residency and eventually file for divorce there. After moving across the river from Omaha, Nebraska, to Council Bluffs, Iowa, Dylan struggles to put his life back together but eventually discovers it’s never too late for love.

Join us as we explore the Nebraska craft beer landscape, meet its trail blazers, and see its landmarks…from grain to glass, this is Prairie Pints.

The film is Co-Directed, Written, and Produced by Tyler Schmid, Shadlee Jo Meinke, Ryan Meinke and Scott Powers, and Executive Produced by William Clause, this documentary is the first of its kind showcasing the ingenuity and small business mindset of Nebraska business owners as they take their passion for beer to the residents of our fine state.
