The Robin Hood of the sandhills finds death around every corner.
“My quest to bring Doc Middleton’s story to the big screen has evolved into an obsession spanning over a decade. He has touched many lives in Nebraska and continues to do so today. His outlaw lore originated in the majestic Nebraska sandhills and that is where principal photography took place. Interviewees from Cherry, Converse, Platte and Rock counties spin their version of Doc’s story with help from the Cherry, Converse and Rock County Historical Societies, Hutton Niobrara Ranch Wildlife Sanctuary, Sandhills Guest Ranch B&B, and the Nebraska State Historical Society. Original music by Teresa Kay Orr (recorded at Studio 24 in Omaha) lend the film a romantically dusty feel. Special thanks to NET and the Nebraska at Studio Film Commission for their support. One day I hope to tell the tale of Doc Middleton as a feature narrative film. –David Higgins (writer, director, producer)
