The Prairie Lights Film Festival is happy to announce that director Colleen Krantz’s documentary WEST BY ORPHAN TRAIN will screen at this year’s festival! The documentary contains stories of Nebraskans and was partially filmed in Nebraska with the help of a grant from Humanities Nebraska. Here’s the synopsis:
It seems incomprehensible that there was a time in America’s not-so-distant past when nearly a quarter of a million children from East Coast orphanages were loaded on trains and sent west, where they were presented “for the picking.” West by Orphan Train will tell the story of these children, who were taken from a sometimes-rough existence to an unfamiliar rural setting during an era that lasted from 1854 to 1929. As some of the last of the still-living orphan train riders like to remind us, it was a different era — one that can’t be judged without understanding what lives were like then. West by Orphan Train, a documentary film completed in October 2014, offers that understanding.
We are pleased to announce that Nate Coulombe’s COULROPHOBIA will screen at this year’s PLFF!
The short horror film was made by Omaha based production group Splitsville Productions and centers around a man who has a crippling fear of clowns due to a tragic event in his past. When he meets a beautiful and alluring girl at a party, he believes his life couldn’t get much better. Until he finds out that she moonlights on the side as a children’s party clown. Will he face his fear or give in to his deadly impulses? Starring Benito Garcia and Megan Shepherd of local FX studio Wetworks SFX!
The Prairie Lights Film Festival is excited to announce that Tom Knoblauch and Ben Matukewicz’s feature length comedy ALMOST A WEEKEND will screen at this year’s festival!
Maya invites her boyfriend and two other couples to her family’s cabin in rural Nebraska for a nice, relaxing weekend, but neurotic antics, bottled up resentments, and unexpected visitors turn the trip into a hilarious nightmare.
The film was shot in Omaha and Monowi, Nebraska with a Nebraska cast and crew. We’re very excited to be able to showcase this on the big screen of the historic Grand Theatre! Check out Fatherson Productions on Facebook for more info on the film.
Pre-Order you weekend passes now for the low price of $10 (3 days of films, popcorn, soda, and local restaurant discounts) to see ALMOST A WEEKEND this October!
The Prairie Lights Film Festival is excited to announce the world premiere of the Nebraska horror anthology SHIVERS DOWN YOUR SPINE for this year’s Prairie Lights Film Festival!
SHIVERS is constituted of ten short films that have been shot over the course of the past 4 years, beginning in 2011. Over 50 Nebraska writers, directors, musicians, FX artists, actors, and crew members participated in the creation of the films, which run the gamut from horror comedy to film noir to retro 80’s period pieces.
The story centers around a lonely man who finds a beautiful genie and wishes for her to tell him a group of scary stories. Included in the anthology is A CHRISTMAS HORROR STORY, shot last winter at The Grand Theatre itself! We are proud to bring a film featuring dozens of talented Nebraska filmmakers to the big screen, but to also showcase a short film created in Grand Island, Nebraska.
There will also be a Q&A session with the filmmakers, writers, and actors who were involved in the creation of the anthology project! You can Pre-Order a weekend pass to see SHIVERS DOWN YOUR SPINE and a ton of other soon to be announced films right now for the low price of $10.00! You’ll get access to all three days of the festival, discounts at local restaurants, free popcorn and soda vouchers, and more! Check the tickets page to Pre-Order you pass to Prairie Lights 2015!
