The Prairie Lights Film Festival is excited to announce that the first episode of Lincoln filmmakers Dorothy Booraem and Chad Haufschild’s upcoming webseries, HEARTLESS, will screen at the PLFF! Here’s the synopsis:
Captured by agents of the shadow government, con artist and thief Alexander Crowley wakes up handcuffed in a basement cell. Agents Rob and Ariel plan to use him as bait in their mission to destroy a powerful coven of magic-using humans. But Alex has no intention of being a government pawn. Using pass-through magic, which allows him to travel through the space that connects all doors, he escapes, only to discover that Rob and Ariel are able to track him to any location.
As the agents close in, all seems lost. But Alex has a secret. He has no heart. And without a heart, the root of all human connection, Alex cannot be controlled by magic. In a desperate bid to keep Alex in play, the agents reveal that Alex’s long lost sister Dahlia is alive and being held by the coven they are there to destroy. Although his lack of a heart keeps him from feeling love or hope, the past still has power over Alex. Now he must trust Rob and Ariel to help him rescue his sister, the one person powerful enough to restore his heart, if he could find it.
Additionally, Dorothy and Chad will be on hand to discuss their films as guests as well as to screen their feature length film, BLOOD RITES.
Heavily influenced by Giallo, a genre of Italian horror popularized in the late 60’s and 70’s by masters like Dario Argento and Lucio Fulci, Blood Rites is a macabre mystery of murder, drug use and the occult.
It was supposed to be an easy deal for Jason and Nikki: buy the drugs, cut them at an abandoned warehouse, then sell them on the street and rake in the cash. When the drug deal goes bad and Jason disappears, Nikki is trapped on an upper floor of the warehouse with a vicious ex-military enforcer, a gunshot victim, a violent addict and his three hostages.
Leaving the building is not an option. All the exits have been blocked. And somewhere in the darkness is something with a taste for blood and a love of pain. The bad guys are being stalked by something worse. For a great demon demands to be born from the fiery depths of hell and its faithful servant has planned a bizarre blood rite that will leave no vein untapped. Blood will flow. Hell is coming.
The PLFF is excited to not only have these talented Nebraska filmmakers’ films screening, but to have them discuss their films with the audience. Be sure to make time to come out and see a really cool new webseries and a murder mystery giallo shot in Lincoln, Nebraska!
